The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veterans Mental Health Department (VMHD) consists of multiple programs and initiatives aimed at providing training, certification, technical assistance and advocacy related to veteran mental health needs. VMHD includes programs and services for justice-involved veterans, peer support, suicide prevention, military cultural competency and military trauma awareness for public safety responders and mental health professionals, access to military-informed clinical mental health care, and community collaboration.

Post 9/11 GI Bill students, special COVID rules for online study extended

On Sept 30, 2020, H. R. 8337 was signed into law extending the timeline for the special COVID rules for students pursuing resident courses that were converted online because of COVID 19. Post 9/11 GI Bill students who pursue resident courses converted to online delivery solely due to COVID 19 will continue to receive the MHA rate for resident training through December 21, 2021.

The Veteran-Owned Businesses recognition program of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Entrepreneur Program launched October 26, 2020.

Veteran owned status is verified by the program. Once verified, the program will provide a VOB logo designation for display on businesses, web sites and marketing materials.

A relationship that is WoVeN

WoVeN (Women Veterans Network) is a nationwide organization, a network of women veterans that fosters connections and builds relationships in communities. The group has a close, mutually beneficial relationship with the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Women Veterans Program (WVP). Mills County Veterans County Service Officer (VCSO) Craig Wright is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in Vietnam during 1964-1966. “I served on a destroyer, the USS O’Bannon DD450 during that time,” said Wright.
