From stuck in Ready for Decision status to over $47,000 in retro pay

The Benefits Delivery Discharge Claim was to be effective October 1, 2020. After not receiving the benefits, the veteran contacted Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisor (CBA) Kathy Pino for assistance. Getting out to assist veterans

In assisting veterans and their families to receive their benefits, Ted Oats gets out to meet them where they are. “Many times, I visit with families in the home, nursing home or assisted living facilities to explain the requirements to be able to qualify,” said Oats, Hunt County Veteran Services Director and retired Air Force Colonel. “I also provide help to home health organizations explaining all of the programs available to veterans and their spouses.”

Over 250 veterans connected with benefits and services at outreach and engagement events held in Fort Stockton and Horizon City on December 6, 7, 9 and 10, 2021. Getting DD214s, assistance with Claims, health care and housing were among the benefits and services offered. Also available were mental wellness resources, on-the-spot flu shots, emergency financial assistance and many local and statewide services.
