After Gulf War Army veteran Lenora Holmes’ new job fell through, she found herself unemployed and depleting her savings. In her previous job as a VA social worker in North Texas, she had directed veterans to the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) for employment assistance. Holmes decided to do so herself. Overcoming injuries & obstacles to employment

Veteran Johnathan Igou served just over 4 years in the Air Force. During that time, he was injured during a combat tour in Afghanistan, sustaining injuries from an I.E.D. (Improvised Explosive Device), and a Tracer Round. Igou, pictured below, was medically boarded and while in the VA hospital was referred to the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment program. In 2016, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the University of North Texas(UNT) in Denton.

“Job clubs are very different from our workshops. It’s very informal. We invite veterans that are in the job seeking arena,” said Jonathan Boubel, Veteran Career Advisor of the Texas Veterans Commission. “We just have an open dialogue that is not scripted. First statewide American Legion career fair a model for success

The American Legion, Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) partnered to present a statewide, virtual career fair on September 15, 2020. The event turned out bigger than expected, featuring more than 220 companies and attracting approximately 780 job seekers.
