Over $3.4 million in grants presented to 16 veteran service organizations in the South Texas/Rio Grande/Corpus Christi areas on August 30

On August 30, 2022 ; the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) presented $3,450,000 in grants to 16 organizations for services provided directly to veterans in the South Texas, Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi areas. The grants will fund services for more than 3,000 veterans, their spouses and dependents in this area. The presentation was made by TVC Chairwoman and Navy veteran Laura Koerner at the Hidalgo County Commissioners Courtroom, 100 N. Closner, Edinburg, Texas.

Claims helps veteran’s widow get over $194K in retro pay, plus monthly compensation

In the El Paso area, the widow of a veteran was denied Dependent Indemnity Compensation in 2010. With the help of Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisor and an Army Retired veteran Robert Macias, she was just awarded over $194,700 in retro payment in July, plus monthly compensation of over $1,790.

American Legion Employment Awards honor Texas Veterans Commission’s Katie Baillio & Christopher Garza

Veterans Employer Liaison (VEL) Christopher Garza and Rural Veteran Career Advisor (RVCA) Katie Baillio were awarded by the American Legion, Department of Texas for their outstanding effectiveness in getting veterans into jobs. Both are members of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veterans Employment Services team. The awards were presented at the American Legion state convention in July.
