The American Legion 2020 Employer of Veterans Award winners included Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veteran Employer Liaison (VEL) Lee Ware and Veteran Career Advisor (VCA) Coach Trey Hubbard.

Ware earned awards at the state and national level. Military Veteran Peer Network serves over 41,500 veterans in 6 months

In just six months, September 2020 through February 2021, the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) served 34,789 veterans or veteran family members; plus, MVPN engaged with 6,720 justice-involved veterans. Additionally, MVPN conducted 196 training events; and trained 642 Texans in Basic Military Cultural Competency Training and Suicide Prevention Training.

Newly formed Veterans Faith Champions assist transitioning military & veterans through faith organizations

The first three Veterans Faith Champions in Texas received their initial training in April 2021. Veterans Faith Champions are volunteers who will act as resource guides to transitioning military and veterans within their faith communities.

“All VCSOs (Veteran County Service Officers) have success stories. It’s the veteran we don’t get through to their benefits or have challenges with that we should focus on,” said Sabine County Veteran Service Officer and Navy veteran Thomas “Shorty” Warren.
