Claims numbers increase, helps secure $2M retro payments

From March 19 when the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Department transitioned to remote service through May 8, Claims has had over 74,000 interactions with veterans. These have been on a strong uptick. For example, the week of May 4 had 15,600 interactions compared to 2,902 the week of March 22. A highlight of the recent activity has been the awarding of $2 million in combined retroactive payouts distributed among five veterans.

A Blue Water Navy Agent Orange compensation for a Kerrville area veteran and a correction on a form for a San Antonio area veteran highlight veterans’ Claims successes in March.

In Kerrville, Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisor (CBA) Tammi Franklin’s work with a veteran on a Blue Water Navy claim resulted in the veteran being awarded $39,350 annually, plus $227,011 in retroactive compensation. The veteran previously had no claims benefits compensation.

Claims helps veteran receive $733K payment

A McAllen veteran received a retroactive payment totaling $733,294.72 by working with his local Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisor (CBA) Jose Zamora.

Zamora had been assisting the veteran with an appeal which had been in an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) hearing since January 2018. Further, the case had been on remand dating back to May 1993. New Claims office opens in Cedar Park

The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) has opened a Claims office in Cedar Park. The office assists veterans in claiming the benefits they have earned through filing disability compensation claims with the VA. The service is provided at no charge to the veteran.

Opened in February, the new Cedar Park office offers area veterans an alternative to traveling to TVC Claims offices in other locations such as southeast Austin and Fort Hood.

Access to Compensation & Pension Exam helps family of justice involved veteran

When justice involved veteran Stanton Yates was able to take a Compensation & Pension (C&P) Exam, it increased his disability rating to 100%. That in turn provided his seven-year-old son access to healthcare from the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the VA (CHAMPVA), improved his son’s chances of going to college and opened the possibility of an apportionment to his mother. That Yates, an incarcerated veteran, could take the C&P exam which made this possible wasn’t a simple process.
