On the hunt for job seeking veterans

TVC Employment Services partners with other organizations in producing career advancing events for veterans. At the Texas VFW Foundation Veteran Career Expo, held mid-January in Corpus Christi, 31 employers were on site, 10 on-the-spot job offers were made, 8 interviews were scheduled and over 140 follow-ups were planned. The event attracted over 130 attendees, of that more than 60 were veterans and their family members.

Pictured at left, TVC Veterans Employer Liaison and Army veteran James Wilson, and Veterans Career Advisor and Navy veteran Durashia “Button” Frizzell were at the event to identify veterans in the area requiring employment assistance.

“Around 35 veterans visited the TVC table during the hiring fair, where they were informed about the services and programs offered by TVC,” said Laurie Pimentel-Johnson, TVC Veteran Employment Services South Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Army veteran.

Additionally, at the event Wilson established connections with new employers, including Boeing, Chief of Naval Air Training, and Iron Horse Tools. He also strengthened his connections with Nueces County, Corpus Christi Police Dept., Kiewit, Omni, Port of Corpus Christi, Texas Family Protective Services, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The event was co-coordinated by the Texas Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP), and Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend to match employers with career opportunities ready to hire veterans, military, spouses and working age family members.
