Claims helps a WWII combat veteran’s disability rating & secures needed documents

Assisting a WWII combat veteran in the Rio Grand Valley with his disability rating and helping a Bryan-College Station veteran in urgent need of VA documentation are ways the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims put their teamwork and resourcefulness to work in July. Further, Texas Senator Jose Menedez congratulated and thanked the Claims Southwest District for their service to thousands of veterans in the San Antonio area.

The WWII veteran from the Rio Grande Valley, age 102 and decorated with a Combat Action Badge and Purple Heart, needed to obtain the necessary examination and medical opinion for his disability rating. To assist him, Bryan Brown, TVC Claims Rio Grande Area Supervisor, teamed up with Phil Kraus, TVC Claims Houston Strike Force Supervisor. Kraus worked closely with the VA to ensure the veteran was able to obtain the necessary examination and medical opinion from a local treatment facility and limit the veteran’s potential exposure to COVID-19. On July 23, 2020, the WWII veteran was awarded 100% Service Connected Disability, back to January 23, 2020.

“Leaning on their years of experience and passion to serve, Phil and Bryan put service into motion. This is a good win for a deserving veteran,” said TVC Claims Operations Manager Ryan Pavlu.

A veteran in Bryan-College Station urgently needed VA documentation. However, being in a high-risk category for COVID-19 put making a routine request into a potentially dangerous endeavor. Understanding the veterans condition, TVC Claims Benefits Advisor Edward Yi jumped into action and fulfilled the veteran’s request within a matter of hours.

“Mr. Yi clearly represents the best and reflects exceptionally well on TVC and the efforts of its staff to provide service to the veteran population,” said the veteran.

TVC Claims Southwest District service to hundreds of thousands of veterans annually and its continuing of  service through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic earned it praise from Texas State Senator Jose Menendez. On July 8, 2020 Senator Menendez stated “”Thank you for your military service, your continuous work servicing our Veterans and unrelenting dedication to our Veterans in this great State of Texas.”
