Caldwell County Veterans Service Officer expands services with Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grant

Caldwell’s Veterans County Service Officer (VCSO) Dr. Al Dos Santos is offering more services to veterans with the help of a Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) grant awarded in July.

“With the award of a (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grant, this office can now provide assistance with housing expenditures such as rent, utilities, transportation, food and legal documentation,” said Santos. “The main areas we work in in Caldwell is food and transportation. We have several that need transportation to clinics.”

$880,788 in emergency funding grants approved for veteran services organizations

As of April 20, 2020, $880,788 in additional, emergency grant funding from the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Fund for Veterans Assistance (FVA) has been approved to 16 organizations providing veterans services across the state. The additional funds are to assist with increased service demands brought on by the coronavirus/COVID-19 State of Emergency.

Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Hears From Over 100 Grant Applicants

The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) Advisory Committee met in January 2020 to hear grant funding proposals from more than 100 organizations. As part of their proposal, each organization described the services they provide to veterans and how many veterans they hope to serve. Eligible applicants are comprised of non-profits or government agencies. Approximately $28.3 million is expected to be available to fund 2020-2021 grants.
