More than $1.8 Million in Grants to Nine East Texas Organizations for Veteran Services

On September 13, 2023, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) presented $1,840,000 in grants to nine organizations for providing services to approximately 1,840 East Texas veterans and their families.

5th annual Austin Veteran Arts Festival (AVAFest) launches Oct. 14

The 5th annual Austin Veteran Arts Festival (AVAFest) is preparing launch on Oct. 14 and runs through Nov. 13. It features concerts, comedy, veteran art exhibits, dance and performing arts, book fair and festival, discussion groups and more. AVAfest also includes tournament including pickle ball and golf. Good relations with VA streamlines Claims decision

VA Home Health Care sent the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) a request to contact a Vietnam era Army veteran in the lower Rio Grande Valley, who was receiving assistance from VA Home Health Care. The contact was requested as the veteran had not yet filed a VA disability compensation Claim and would need assistance to do so.

The Texas Veterans Commission’s Veteran (TVC) Entrepreneur Program (VEP) teamed up with the Sam Austin Group for Black Business Week in San Antonio held July 31 and August 1, 2023. TVC’s Entrepreneur Program was there to provide Veteran Verification Letters (VVLs) on the spot for new veteran business owners before they visited the Sam Austin Group which provided free document completion and veteran owned business certification submissions to the Secretary of State. The presentation was made by TVC Commissioner and Army veteran Kevin Barber at Houston – Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, 3303 Main St, Houston, Texas.
