Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Employment Services provided individualized career services to 2,369 veterans from July 2020 – June 2021. Of that, 1,294 found employment. Overall, throughout Texas, TVC’s Employment Services served 18,290 veterans in its past program year. This included job fairs, training and networking events.
“TVC’s Employment Services team plays a key role in getting Texas veterans and their family members employed, which in turn, strengthens the overall economy in Texas,” said Texas Veterans Commissioner and Air Force veteran Kimberlee Shaneyfelt, pictured.
Hiring veterans takes employers too. TVC’s Employment Services team outreached to 6,586 employers across Texas to assist these businesses in matching veterans with jobs available. Hiring veterans brings benefit to employers including a tax break, as well as a highly skilled, quality employees.
TVC’s Employment team provides veterans with assistance writing resumes, interviewing, matching military skills to civilian jobs and more.

“Employers want what veterans have to offer — their discipline, adaptability and work ethic,” said Jim Martin, TVC Veterans Employment Services Director and Air Force veteran, in the recent article Military-to-Civilian Career Transition in Texas by the Texas Comptrollers office. “I believe one of the biggest hurdles our veterans face when they come out of the military is understanding they are not in the military anymore — it’s a different world.”
