Lost benefits secured with retro payment of $553,085

In September, a veteran in El Paso was awarded a retro payment over $553,085 with the help of Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisor and Army veteran Roberto Macias.

The veteran served as a Weapons-Technician in the Navy during his service of at least two tours in Vietnam (RVN area) and earned the RVN Gallantry Cross.

In winning the retro payment, Macias worked to secure documentation and provided it to the VA that the veteran had served in Vietnam and made a previous claim that was denied. Further, Macias provided evidence that the veteran had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. “I ensured veteran was also going to be rated for secondary claims to Parkinson’s Disease,” said Macias.

In addition to the retro payment, “I ensured Special Monthly Compensation was also being reviewed,” said Macias. “This ensured the veteran extra income, not just 100% of $3,000 a month. It was ensuring the veteran is receiving up to $8,000 a month.”

“Great news and congratulations Roberto for securing all lost benefits for the veteran,” said Ruben Villarreal, Texas Veterans Commissions Claims Operations Manager.
