Presentations By TVC Grant Applicants To The FVA Advisory Committee

Applicants are not required to participate in the presentation meeting, as the FVA Advisory Committee’s recommendation for awarding is not based on the presentation. The presentation meeting serves as an opportunity for applicants to present their projects and interact in-person or virtually with the FVA Advisory Committee while describing their projects’ objectives.

All eligible organizations may present their application to the FVA Advisory Committee in person or virtual-remote. Travel expenses are not covered.

About The Presentation Meeting

Applicants are not required to present. However, if they choose to present, a Presentation Slide Deck must be submitted.

Presenters may pitch their projects either in-person or remotely via GoToWebinar; while applicants may elect to present in-person, travel expenses will not be reimbursed. Applicants for each grant program will be introduced to present, grouped by grant program, with order determined by the time of sign up. Applicants who do not sign up and submit files by the deadline will not be allowed to present.

When a presenter is introduced, basic information about the application will be extracted from the application system and displayed on-screen (i.e. grant program, service category, amount, beneficiaries to be served). Committee members will be provided with of a copy of your Presentation Slide Deck, which will also be displayed on-screen. Presenters may refer to their Presentation Slide Deck; no other materials may be submitted, including no media presentations. Advisory Committee and Commission members will receive these documents as part of the application review process.

The presentation meeting schedule will be posted in early February, and updated regularly as organizations sign up to present.

Please note that while TVC staff will provide organizations with an approximate presentation window, delays may occur. The meeting will continue until all scheduled presenters for the day have been called.

Best Practices For Presentations
  • One person is allowed to present each grant application. Others may be mentioned, but only one speaker is allowed. Cameras are allowed, if the presenter practices turning on/off their camera at the Technical Rehearsal with TVC staff.
  • If presenting in person, practice your presentation at a podium before an audience, BEFORE you present to the Committee. Each organization will have 5 minutes to present on the eligible project, and the time limit is FIRM. After you begin speaking, TVC staff are unable to reset the presentation timer due to technical difficulties. The Committee may ask questions of presenters once they have finished speaking, and time for questions does not count towards the 5 minute presentation limit.
  • If presenting remotely, practice your presentation on videoconference BEFORE you present to the Committee on GoToWebinar.
  • There is no penalty for not presenting
  • Accuracy of statistics and demographics are key
  • Presenters shall submit slides NLT February 22nd, by emailing files under 10MB to grants@tvc.texas.gov.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from the Virtual Presentations Meeting?

This is your opportunity to advocate for your application by presenting to the Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee makes funding recommendations to the Commission.

Is this presentation required?

No, your organization is not required to attend or present. There is no penalty for not presenting a project to the FVA Advisory Committee.

The form doesn’t give me an option to select a time?

Following the presentation sign-up deadline, you will be notified of an estimated window for your presentation. We recommend you arrive or log on at least 30 minutes early, in case the meeting is running ahead of schedule.

During our presentation, will one of our staff be able to advance the slides?

Presenters will verbally cue TVC staff to advance the slide deck. All presenters should attend the Technical Rehearsal to practice using the webinar interface.

Are we allowed to have more than one PowerPoint slide, or does everything have to fit on one slide?

Presenters may have more than one PowerPoint slide. Due to the 5-minute time limit, we recommend you rehearse each slide to provide sufficient time for the information you would like to cover.

Do I present about all my grant applications together, in one big presentation?

No. Application presentations will be grouped by grant program (i.e. General Assistance, Veterans Mental Health, etc.), and you will be scheduled in the order your signup was received.

Who will we present to?

The 9-member Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Advisory Committee panel, which reviews grant applications and provide recommendations to the Texas Veterans Commissioners.

What should my presentation cover?

Please see the Presentation Slide Template and/or the presentation instruction section of this page for more information.

Will presenters answer questions?

The 9-member Fund for Veterans’ Assistance Advisory Committee panel may ask as many–or as few–questions about your presentation or application as they wish to ask.

What happens after the Presentations Meeting?

The FVA Advisory Committee Members will read applications individually, then meet in April to discuss their individual recommendations. After deliberations, the Committee agrees on a slate of funding recommendations which are then sent to the Commission.

When will we find out if we got a grant?

The Commission will award 2023-2024 grants (funded July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024) at the May 18, 2023 Commission Meeting.
