Because your organization was awarded FVA grant funding in 2023-24, you are invited to participate in the 2023 Big Check Presentation/Commissioners Tour of Texas!
What is the Tour of Texas?
Every year, TVC Commissioners travel across all eight Fund for Veterans’ Assistance regions of Texas and hold Big Check Presentation events.
These gatherings are an opportunity:
- For Commissioners recognizing the organizations awarded grants at the start of the grant year,
- For grantees promoting their services among the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance network of organizations, AND
- For both Commissioners and grantees promoting veterans services to local and regional media outlets.

What does this involve?
- RSVP by August 19, 2022 – new date?
- Representative(s) accept a commemorative check from a Commissioner of the Texas Veterans Commission
- Representative(s) promote your grant-funded services to fellow Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grantees
- Representative(s) promote your grant-funded services to local and regional media outlets
Why should we attend?
These events are YOUR opportunity, as an 2023-24 FVA grantee, to:
- promote your organization to members of the local media
- network with your fellow Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grantees, and
- receive a commemorative check for your 2023-2024 grant award(s) from the senior leadership officers of the Texas Veterans Commission
- POTENTIALLY speak to the addressed crowd (varies by event)
Will we have an opportunity to address the crowd?
Each organization sending staff to the assigned event listed below should appoint one attendee to address the crowd, if called to speak. PLEASE NOTE: Due to time limitations, this may not be possible at every event.
PROMPT: Express thanks for the grant funding. Describe how you look forward to serving veterans in 2023-24 with the funding.

RSVP via the form below, or by email to grants@tvc.texas.gov by August 19, 2022 New Date? with the following details. Each organization SUBMIT ONE. RSVP again if any of these details change.

What organizations are invited to the tour stop where I can accept a check?
Please see the events schedule calendar below for links to each event. At the individual event link (Alamo Region Event, etc.), you will find a list of organizations assigned to that tour stop.
Who/how many representatives may attend?
Up to two staff members or leaders may attend to receive the “big check” – Please RSVP by August 19 New Date? with the name and title of the individual(s) attending your assigned tour stop, and any other events you plan to attend. The Commissioner presenting checks may provide your organization with an opportunity to speak, if program run time allows.
What if we have a scheduling conflict or can’t attend for another reason?
Your organization’s name, amount, and the purpose of your current TVC grants will still be announced as part of the program, but you will not receive a physical “big check” – a graphic of the “big check” will be provided so you may print it out or post online to promote this year’s grant funding from TVC.
Great! Where is your press release for the event?
Please coordinate with TVC Public Information Officer Jim Halbrook (jim.halbrook@tvc.texas.gov) on press releases. While TVC Communications will promote the event to local media outlets with our big press list, we also invite YOU to promote the event to your contacts in the local media as well!
What about travel expenses?
Attending these promotion events is OPTIONAL, and travel expenses for the event will not be reimbursed.
