Employment Services connects with those in poverty & homeless in Dallas

When nonprofit Operation Care International held an annual event in Dallas to assist those in poverty and the homeless, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veteran Employment Services (VES) North Texas District Team and Woman Veterans Program joined this opportunity to connect with veterans.

The annual event, Christmas Gift held Dec 19, 2022, provided employment networking as well as financial, healthcare and housing assistance plus other services.

The TVC team assisted with identifying veterans at the point of entry to the event. Of the approximately 2,000 attendees, about 10%, or 200 were identified as veterans. Those veterans were given the opportunity to contact family and friends as the TVC team assisted them with the Operation Care Call Home services. Additionally, veterans were provided information on TVC services including employment. The Vietnam veterans there were signed up to receive a copy of a special Texas limited edition Vietnam War 50th Commemoration book A Time to Honor: Stories of Service, Duty, and Sacrifice.

“The service and dedication of the North Texas TVC VES Staff is exemplary. Thank you for your professionalism!” said Ron Abrams, TVC Employment Services North Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Army veteran.
