Veteran outreach & engagement events connect over 250 with benefits & services in west Texas

Over 250 veterans connected with benefits and services at outreach and engagement events held in Fort Stockton and Horizon City on December 6, 7, 9 and 10, 2021. Getting DD214s, assistance with Claims, health care and housing were among the benefits and services offered. Also available were mental wellness resources, on-the-spot flu shots, emergency financial assistance and many local and statewide services.

The Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Workforce & Transition Alliance is a group of organizations building relationships among government, non- government agencies, veteran non-profit organizations and employer partners.

Military Veteran Peer Network serves over 41,500 veterans in 6 months

In just six months, September 2020 through February 2021, the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) served 34,789 veterans or veteran family members; plus, MVPN engaged with 6,720 justice-involved veterans. Additionally, MVPN conducted 196 training events; and trained 642 Texans in Basic Military Cultural Competency Training and Suicide Prevention Training.

Quick Reaction Force: Removing Barriers is a veterans benefits fair held virtually and quarterly in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. It connects veterans and their families with participating community-based service providers. Services include employment, education, health care, child care, tuition assistance, utility and housing assistance and mental well being counseling for veterans, their families and surviving spouses. Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Women Veterans Program Manager Dr. Krystle Matthews, Ed.D, HRD, has been honored as a 2020 Outstanding Woman in Texas Government by the Texas Governor’s Commission for Women. A letter from Governor Greg Abbott announcing the award cited Matthews’ community involvement at the Texas Veterans Commission as well as her dedication and service to the state and to Texans. The Veteran-Owned Businesses recognition program of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Entrepreneur Program launched October 26, 2020.

Veteran owned status is verified by the program. Once verified, the program will provide a VOB logo designation for display on businesses, web sites and marketing materials.
