TEXAS – The Texas Veterans Commission recently awarded 38 organizations $6.95 million in General Assistance, Housing4TexasHeroes, and Veterans Mental Health grants from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. These grants offer funding to non-profit and local government organizations which, in turn, provide direct services to Texas Veterans and their families.
“These new grantees will serve Texas Veterans and their family members through programs and services in their communities all over Texas,” said Kathy Wood, Director of the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. “To date, the Commission has awarded over 200 grants – which translates to nearly $40 million in grants awarded to help serve over 170,000 Texas Veterans and their family members.”
In partnership with the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Texas Veterans Commission awarded the first ever Veterans Mental Health grants. These grants fund projects providing direct counseling and mental health services to Veterans and their families across the state.
Awarded Housing4TexasHeroes grants will assist with home modifications for disabled and/or low income Veterans, providing needed repairs and accessibility improvements enabling those Veterans to safely live in their homes.
Additionally, the funding cycle included General Assistance grants awarded to organizations providing much needed financial assistance such as transportation, rent and utility assistance, and supportive services to Texas Veterans and their families.
The following 38 organizations received grants in the categories of General Assistance, H4TXH, and Veterans Mental Health totaling $6,945,000 in grant funds.
