A “strong cohesive networking community” – Joint Base San Antonio Workforce & Transition Alliance

The Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Workforce & Transition Alliance is a group of organizations building relationships among government, non- government agencies, veteran non-profit organizations and employer partners.

“We share and sync employment, education, entrepreneurship, credentialing, and holistic wellness information to better serve transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses and dependents,” said Laurie Pimentel-Johnson, Army veteran and Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), Veterans Employment Services (VES), South Texas District Outreach Coordinator.

The Alliance meets weekly to sync and share information amongst the group and have continued, moving from in-person to virtual, in the pandemic.  “Every week there are about 60 members in the Alliance meeting. This has created strong bonds between the JBSA installations and community partners,” said Pimentel-Johnson.

She noted a key to the Alliance’s success is its collaborative, non-competitive nature among stakeholders. “An event calendar has been established to share events and to ensure that alliance members are able to support each other’s events without double booking events.  The focus and goal are to have a strong cohesive networking community to assist and support Texas transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses, and dependents with employment readiness and resources.”

TVC VES South District is a member of the JBSA Workforce & Transition Alliance and represented by Veterans Career Advisor and Army veteran David Gonzalez,  and Pimentel-Johnson. Additionally, TVC Women Veterans Program Coordinator and Army veteran Sharron Stewart is part of the Alliance.

Chairing the JBSA Workforce & Transition Alliance is Serafina De Los Santos, Executive Director, 502d Support Group, JBSA and Air Force veteran.
