A Message from the Governor in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day

The men and women of the U.S. armed forces routinely, and often on short notice, go into harm’s way in locations all across the globe. The risks they face are grave but necessary, because our military represents the front line of defense between our great nation and those who would do us harm.

But these brave individuals are not alone in the sacrifices they make to secure our freedom. Back home, military spouses keep a stoic vigil, knowing that pieces of their own hearts and souls are on those front lines, too.

For these wives and husbands, there is little fanfare and never enough training to prepare them for weeks, months and sometimes years of running the household and providing for their family, while living with the stress of having a loved one in dangerous circumstances.

This nation owes military spouses a great debt, for their dedication to home and family has a tremendous effect on our military’s ability to do its best in defense of this great nation.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2015, to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.
In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this the 27th day of April 2015.

Governor of Texas
