Best Cities for Veterans to live includes 12 in Texas

In November, WalletHub ranked the 100 largest U.S. cities as to their favorable environments for veterans. The ranking utilized 20 key indicators of livability, affordability and veteran-friendliness. Personal commitment expands service to Kimball veterans

Through his own personal effort and commitment, Donald Glover has increased the service of the Kimball County Veterans Office to daily service.

“For many years, this office was open 1/2 day a week. I volunteer enough time to keep it open at least four hours a day and have done so for last four years. It is the most fulfilling employment I have ever had,” said Glover, Kimball County Veterans Serivce Officer.

Fund for Veterans’ Assistance presents over $30.7 million in grants to 109 organizations across Texas

AUSTIN, TX – On November 9-13, 2020; the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) presented more than $30.7 million in grants to 109 organizations across Texas. These funds are providing assistance to more than 33,400 veterans and their families.

$1.3 billion generated by claims filed in FY 2019-2020

Texas Veteran Commission (TVC) Claims Benefits Advisors (CBAs) and Veteran County Service Officers across the state filed more than 870,480 claims on behalf of Texas veterans in Fiscal Year 2019-2020. This resulted in over $1.3 billion being paid to veterans.

Of the total number of claims filed, more than 838,750 were Compensation Claims, over 14,600 were Pension Claims, over 13,140 were Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) Claims and nearly 4,000 were Survivors Pension Claims.

The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veterans Mental Health Department (VMHD) consists of multiple programs and initiatives aimed at providing training, certification, technical assistance and advocacy related to veteran mental health needs. On Sept 30, 2020, H. R. 8337 was signed into law extending the timeline for the special COVID rules for students pursuing resident courses that were converted online because of COVID 19. Post 9/11 GI Bill students who pursue resident courses converted to online delivery solely due to COVID 19 will continue to receive the MHA rate for resident training through December 21, 2021.
